The following small works on paper are part of the Mind over Matter archive, a project which began more than fifteen years ago as an open-ended inquiry into how processes of human logic interact with ephemeral structures of authority, research, work, and play. Rather than viewing individual pieces as isolated objects, I approach this archive as a single, continuously evolving body of work. The core philosophy rests on the tension between the fluid potential of human thought and the material constraints of institutional learning materials, record-keeping papers, and random ephemera.
The archive now numbers more than 1500 items.
All pieces measure from 2 × 3 to 12 × 17 “. They feature collage, ink, and graphite, on erased book pages, vintage paper ephemera, obsolete currency, postcards, ledgers, and vintage textbooks.
